5 Trains at Taylorsville VA 03.30.2013

So far in 2013, my railfan outings had only taken place at the Visitor's Center in Ashland, VA. By the end of March, I was ready for a change of pace, so I decided to try a new location on the morning of March 30th.

Taylorsville, VA is about 6 miles north of Ashland, with the tracks running next to Binns Road (off of Route 30), and home to a curve, and a defect detector at milepost 19.6.

First up was Northeast Regional 88, going north behind P42 181.

Shortly after 88 passed by, a southbound blew for Doswell Road, thus I knew we were in for a freight, and even better, it had an AC6000 leader, as the 675 and ES40DC 5285 led Q405 south towards Ashland.

After Q405's passage, there was a small break in the action, and there was nothing else calling signals on the scanner. While waiting on the next train, I decided to reposition my camera, so I could shoot from a different point of view. The next train appeared at 9:39 AM, as Q409-29 passed by the camera behind ES40DC 5364 and SD50 8538, with a horn salute from the engineer.
Northeast Regional 67 (P077 on weekends) was not far behind Q409, as it got a limited clear signal at Doswell, and came by on track 2 behind P42 40.
Before heading back home, I was able to catch Q703, which was right behind Northeast Regional 67, passing by Taylorsville behind ES40DC 5329 and C40-8W 7357.
